Ile Sante Marie is a 63 Km in lenght and 5 km in breadth granitic
island, facing the east coast of Madagascar. It is covered by a luxuriant tropical vegetation and surrounded by a marvellous
coral-reef. During the XVII century, it became a shelter for
pirates, whose cemetery is still to be seen, as well as some old ship wreckage offshore. But what makes of Sante Marie a really unique place is the humpback whales periodical
gathering, which takes place in its waters once a year during the reproduction season and lasts almost five months
(July-October). |
